Synopsis

Lessons Six through Eleven focused on nouns, specifically first and second declension nouns. However, if it was not for another vital part of speech, the adjective, nouns would lack vividness as to definiteness, shape, size, quantity, color, and texture—words that describe nouns that otherwise would be general or bland.  An overview concerning adjectives is first outlined in this lesson with an emphasis upon how they function in English before comparing and contrasting their characteristics with those of Greek adjectives.  Fifty-two MP3 audio files are used in conjunction with this lesson.  At the conclusion of the lesson, a study guide tests over the material presented.

Study Aids

The following study aids are designed to reinforce the material presented in Lesson Twelve.  An "answer key" is provided when necessary.  The different levels represent an escalating level of difficulty.  It is recommended to begin with the least difficult exercises in Level One and proceed through Level Three to receive the maximum benefit from the exercises.  All PDF links open in a new window.

You may download all the paginated study aids for Lesson Twelve in a ZIP file by clicking here.

LEVEL ONE Title, Link and Description
Study Guide Answer Key [PDF]  Instruction
This is the answer key for Lesson Twelve Study Guide.  It is important to answer all of the lesson's exercises to the best of your ability before consulting this answer key.  SA12:1-10

Vocabulary Adjective Paradigms [PDF]  Instruction
For illustrative purposes, all the adjectives in Lesson Twelve vocabulary list are declined.  The list is separated into two parts, dividing between first and second declension two-terminal and three-terminal adjectives.  The adjectives are listed alphabetically in their respective divisions.  SA12:11-40

Vocabulary Study Practice [Audio PDF]  Work Sheets
Practice writing the thirty-two new vocabulary words from Lesson Twelve on these pages.  SA12:41-44

Vocabulary Match [PDF]  Exercise
Many words in the lesson's vocabulary are used as words or as a part of a compound word in the English language.  Select
from a list of English words that correctly corresponds (or matches) with the Greek vocabulary word.  SA12:45-54

LEVEL TWO

Title, Link and Description

Grammatical Concord [PDF]  Exercise
The student fills in the appropriate article that corresponds to the inflected word. Nouns, adjectives, and the verb EIMI is included in this exercise.  An answer key immediately follows the exercise.
SA12:55-56

Comprehensive Two-Terminal Adjective List [PDF]  Instruction
Adjectives that exhibit two-terminal inflectional endings follow second declension endings.  Most feminine adjectives belonging to this declension replicate the masculine endings, however, a few vary between two and three-terminal adjectives.  All second declension two-terminal adjectives which occur in NTGreek are listed with their frequency in parenthesis in this study.
SA12:57-64

Comprehensive Three-Terminal Adjective List [PDF]  Instruction
Unlike two-terminal adjectives, three-terminal adjectives decline feminine adjectives using forms from the first declension.  Whereas most feminine adjectives exhibit separate inflectional endings than masculine, a few vary between two and three-terminal adjectives.  Also, eight contracted three-terminal first and second declension adjectives exist in NTGreek that receive special attention at the end of this study.
SA12:65-80

Lexical Entry [PDF]  Exercise
The student cites the correct accented lexical entry and the declension-paradigm notation for all nouns and adjectives in the list.  An answer key immediately follows this exercise.
SA12:81-82

LEVEL THREE

Title, Link and Description

Grammatical Parsing [PDF]  Exercise
Parse twenty inflected forms, including the verb EIMI, adjectives, and the article.  SA12:83-84

The Conjugation of EIMI [Audio PDF]  Exercise
Because the Greek verb EIMI usually occurs in predicate constructions and occurs thousands of times in NTGreek, all forms must be memorized.  This is a "fill in the blank" exercise over the present, imperfect, and future indicative of EIMI.  SA12:85-86

Let's Read Greek! [Audio PDF]  Exercise
Seventeen verses from NTGreek are read for the student by the instructor.  For instructional purposes, the cadence of reading is slowed down.  SA12:87-88

Quiz [PDF]  Exercise
This comprehensive quiz tests concerning material covered in Lesson Twelve.  This is a closed-book quiz.  SA12:87-102
