Greek Lexicons

A good Greek-English lexicon for the New Testament is indispensible for diagramming. Whereas there are several Greek-English lexicons that may consider purchasing, the two listed on this page are the best for analytical analysis of Greek words.

Bauer and Danker Lexicon
A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature
by Walter Bauer (author), Frederick William Danker (editor)
Internationally known as BDAG, this lexicon is both exhaustive and irreplaceable. Walter Bauer's lexicon is one of the great monuments of biblical and related scholarship. It is perfect for English speaking students working in the Greek text. It incorporates new research, new information, and analyses while rendering translations into contemporary English. This is the standard lexicon for New Testament Greek--there is no equal.

The Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament
by William D. Mounce
This volume is based on the United Bible Societies' 3rd Edition Greek text. It is the first entirely new analytical lexicon since the publication of Bagster's Analytical Greek Lexicon in 1952. In addition to the lexicon proper, which includes preferred readings as well as variants, this textbook contains an all-new set of paradigms that explain why each Greek form is the way it is. It also includes Goodrick/Kohlenberger numbering system. This is a "must have" volume as it declines all New Testament Greek forms and cites the lexical form to assist in looking up a word in BDAG.
